Ways To Save On Your Cable Bill

A few years ago I received a call from our local cable company.  They were calling to inform me that our bill was going to increase by about $30.  At that time, we were already paying more than enough.  The reason for the increase was they were separating out channels into different categories.  Being a frugal one, I defended my long history with the company and explained that if I didn’t get a better deal I would need to look at other companies.  I ended up getting a much better deal and this is how I went about doing it.

When speaking with a rep for the company - make sure to get their name and extension so you can call them back.  If you’re not comfortable with that particular person tell them you will think about your choices and get back to them.  Call back and speak to someone who is willing to work with you.

Find a rep you like - If you find a rep that you really like and they are willing to work with you; chances are you’ll need to contact them again.  Keep that person’s name and number.  I can’t stress that enough.  Keep that person’s contact information.  I’ve worked with the same girl over the past few years and love her!

Ask what other packages they have available - Sometimes they will offer to add a few movie channels for the year with your current package or you can possibly get a better deal with a different package.

Get the rates from other cable companies - If you have other cable companies in your area, give them a call and find out what packages they have available.  Not that you necessarily will go with them but this will give you leverage when speaking with your current cable company.  They are often willing to match the deal and possibly offer you a better deal.  They don’t want to loose your business.

Don’t take no for an answer - It’s that simple.  Find a way to work out a deal.  It’s possible.

If I would have taken no for an answer, I wouldn’t have saved about $ 800 this year.  I ended up getting my current package, with no increase, and additional channels.

I hope you are as successful.

I so need these hints. I’ve been wanting to call the cable company and complain about my bill for a while. Now I think I will.
