How To Clean Up In A Hurry
We’ve all experienced the phone call from a friend or relative who are in the area wanting to stop by and your house is a mess. How in the world are you going to get that mess cleaned up in 20 minutes or less?
Focus on 3 rooms. Living room, dining room and kitchen. Most likely those are the only three rooms your guest will see.
- Grab a laundry basket or something similiar. Head to each room and throw in any items laying around those rooms. Books, magazines, dirty socks, clothes, etc. Hide basket.
- Quickly put away items on kitchen counter. Dishes, papers, bags of chips.
- Throw out items on kitchen counter and take out garbage.
- Quickly dust down tables/floors and vacuum.
- Head to bathroom and do a good wipe down.
- Spray a little air freshner in all rooms.
- Light a candle. (Some people don’t like candles but I love them.)
Keeping up on your housework is another way to prevent a mad dash when unexpected company calls.

If only my husband could learn the stuff it all in a laundry basket and hide it routine…
You are right though - keeping up on the housework is the best way to deal with unexpected company!
